Juan Francisco Camacho Castro

Juan Camacho is a pianist and music educator who has performed extensively as a soloist and collaborative artist in major cities across Colombia and the United States. Recent U.S. appearances include performances at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield, the UIS Visual Arts Gallery, Munson Chapel at Azusa Pacific University, and UIS Performing Arts Center.

Since 2021, he has served as Piano Instructor at the University of Illinois Springfield, where he teaches individual and group piano and performs regularly in faculty and student recitals. His research focuses on developing an introductory harmony curriculum that helps keyboard students internalize harmonic practices and voice-leading patterns through practical application at the piano.

As a performer, he was selected to play Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 13 in C Major with the Camerata Olav Roots at the Fabio Lozano Auditorium and has appeared as soloist at León de Greiff Hall. He has also dedicated part of his artistic work to promoting the music of Italian-Colombian composer Mauricio Nasi, premiering Toccata No. 30 and Toccata No. 27 at the National University of Colombia, and currently performing his Fantasía Romántica, Op. 151. At UIUC, he has collaborated with Concerto Urbano and other chamber ensembles throughout Illinois.

He has also appeared as a soloist on harpsichord and organ, performing Bach’s Concerto BWV 1057 and Handel’s Concerto Op. 4 No. 5. He recently played continuo at Harvard’s Memorial Church as part of the Baroque Chamber Music Bootcamp directed by Juilliard faculty.

Juan is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois under Prof. Timothy Ehlen. He holds an MM from Missouri State University with Prof. Hye-Jung Hong and a BM from the National University of Colombia with Prof. Juan Pablo Luna.
