Dr. Wan Lin is a pianist, choral conductor, and music educator whose artistic vision bridges Eastern and Western musical traditions through performance, scholarship, and teaching. Born in China and trained in Singapore, London, and the United States, she brings a global perspective to her work—connecting tradition and innovation, and uniting solo and collaborative artistry.
Dr. Lin earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature with a cognate in Choral Music from the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, studying with Prof. Timothy Ehlen and graduating with a perfect GPA under full scholarship. She received her Master of Music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studied with the legendary pianist André Watts as his sole admitted student that year, and a Bachelor of Music with First-Class Honours from the Royal College of Music in London.
An active performer, Dr. Lin has appeared on stages across China, Singapore, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In 2025, she completed a five-city solo recital tour in China sponsored by Steinway & Sons; China Daily praised the tour as “rooted in Western classical repertoire and infused with Eastern aesthetics, fostering cultural dialogue between East and West.”
With more than a decade of teaching experience in both collegiate and private settings, Dr. Lin has taught at Indiana University and the University of Illinois, and currently serves on the piano faculty at the Community Center for the Arts in Urbana, Illinois. Her private studio has produced prize-winning students who have been admitted to leading conservatories. Beyond teaching, she serves as President of the World Piano Teachers Association USA–Illinois Chapter, leading educational and artistic initiatives for pianists statewide. She is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the WPTA USA–Illinois International Piano Competition, which provides a professional platform for young pianists to perform, grow, and connect.
